Italian e-invoice codes: TD and MP

Every Italian e-invoice (FatturaPA) states with a code what kind of document it is (TipoDocumento, TD01 to TD29) and how it is paid (ModalitaPagamento, MP01 to MP23). Here are both full tables, and which codes actually move money in your bank account.

Document type (TD)

The code sits in the TipoDocumento field of the general data. Watch codes TD16 to TD23 and TD27, TD28, TD29: they are integrations or self-invoices for VAT purposes, not an extra payment to make.

Why they matter for cash

The codes tell you which invoices become money in or out, when, and to which account. CassaChiara reads them for you: it puts only cash-moving documents in the payment schedule, deducts TD04 credit notes, ignores self-invoices and checks that the IBAN on MP05 bank transfers does not change (the sign of supplier IBAN fraud).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between TD01 and TD24?

TD01 is an immediate invoice. TD24 is a deferred invoice, issued by the 15th of the following month for deliveries documented by transport notes (DDT).

Do I pay a TD04?

No: a TD04 credit note reduces what you owe or are owed on the invoice it refers to.

Which code is a bank transfer?

MP05. The IBAN goes in the DatiPagamento block along with it.

Are TD17 and TD18 self-invoices an extra cost?

No. They record reverse-charge VAT on purchases from abroad: the payment to the supplier is already on the supplier's invoice.
