Reading Italian e-invoices
Since 2019 every Italian business issues and receives invoices as FatturaPA XML files exchanged through SDI, the government's Sistema di Interscambio. Many arrive digitally signed as .xml.p7m. If an Italian supplier or customer sent you one, choose it above: the invoice is shown with English labels, amounts in euros and the payment due dates, IBAN and method.
Lots of invoices to check?
CassaChiara reads every invoice in your cassetto fiscale (the Revenue Agency's online invoice archive) at once and gives you a payment schedule, a 90-day cash-flow forecast and alerts on changed IBANs, duplicate invoices and supplier price increases.

What is a .p7m file?
It is a digitally signed file using the CAdES standard. Inside is the original document: for Italian e-invoices, an XML file in the FatturaPA format. The signature proves who issued it and that it has not been altered.
Why won't it open when I double-click it?
Your computer doesn't know which program to use for a signed file. This page removes the signature envelope and shows the invoice inside.
Is it safe to open my invoices here?
The file is not uploaded to any server: it is read entirely inside your browser. You can check by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Can I download the original XML?
Yes. Once the invoice is open, click "Download XML" to save it without the signature, handy for importing into accounting software.
Can I read an Italian e-invoice if I don't speak Italian?
Yes. This page shows the invoice with English labels: issuer, customer, line items, VAT and payment terms. Item descriptions stay as the supplier wrote them.
